At home in your body

Registration is now closed. Please join my newsletter here to learn about the courses I’m offering.

I am a person who lives in a body. So are you. Sometimes it’s really lovely to live in that body and, at other times, it is incredibly, unspeakably challenging. From talking with other women over the last few months, I know that a lot of us are feeling that way right now. (The challenging part.)

In response to the challenges that I/we are experiencing, I’ve created a new four-week course called ~

At home in your body.

We’ll start exactly where we are
right now by examining
why people are so MEAN
to other people
(and themselves)
about bodies.

How does that get constructed?
Can we unlearn it?
Hint: Yes. Yes we can.

We’ll talk about what it means
to live in a human body.
Lots of us have been
living from the neck up for a long time.
How do we move back into our bodies
after having been refugees for so long?
How do we care for this body?

We’ll examine the evolution
of thinking about bodies
and what it means to
be beautiful
feel beautiful
be perceived as beautiful.
We’ll be gentle about this.
(So gentle.)
Each one will decide for themselves
where they are now and why.
There’s no right way to
think
feel
believe,
just the body/beauty trip you’ve been on
and where you’d like to go next.
Hopefully, these conversations
will provide us all with a set of maps
for future travels.

Finally, we will explore
how to befriend our own body.
We will endeavour to set down
all our weapons and armour
and just be with ourselves.

Each of us will dance
our own tango, waltz, polka,
about the question of
being at home in ones body.

Each of us will dance
our way
home.

This course is not about any of the following:
* weight loss
* diets
* calorie counting
* exercise tips or regimens
* thinspo (thin-spiration)
* looking better
* winning the approval of others
Most respectfully, if you believe that becoming thin(ner) will solve all your problems, this is not the right course for you.

HOW THIS WILL WORK:

Course Modules
Here are the course modules articulated as questions:
Week 1: Why are we so mean about people’s bodies and our own?
Week 2: How can I learn how to be in my body?
Week 3: How do I think about being in a body and about beauty? How do I want to think about this?
Week 4: How can I befriend my own body?

Emails (Three per week)
On Mondays, you’ll receive an email with the week’s lesson, written in essay form, as well as links to the audio recording if you would prefer to listen to these essays.

You will also receive prompts for action on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. These will be small, bite-sized writing prompts and exercises that can be done in twenty minutes or less.

As with all my courses, you are encouraged to do as much or as little as you’d like/are able. You are free to change any exercise to fit your situation or preferences and to make this material your own.

You are always invited to respond to my emails with questions, concerns or thoughts.

Our Slack Group
During the course, we’ll use a private Slack group. It’s a combination classroom and yummy living room that we’ll create together. In this space, you can share your learnings, epiphanies, writing and/or photography and celebrate your wins. We’ll cheer each other on. Feedback will be positive and celebratory in nature. We will not critique anything that participants share.

You can post questions, reflections, comments, writing, struggles, photographs, inspirational quotes or poems, etc. (Really! Etcetera.)

Weekly Zoom Calls
On the Sunday at the end of each week of the course, we will meet on Zoom at 5 p.m. Pacific/ 8 p.m. Eastern./ 9 p.m. Atlantic/ 9 a.m. and Monday at 10 a.m. Tokyo. Classes will be an hour in length.

Private Coaching
Each participant in the class will receive an hour of coaching from Monna which can be scheduled during the course or anytime before 15th March 2022. We’ll talk about anything you choose; you are not limited to topics covered by the course. Please note that when I offered this as part of the Twinkle Light Sessions, most participants had their coaching session near or after the end of the course so that they could use our coaching conversation to consolidate their learning.

If you have been curious about coaching, this is a great way to begin!
