Recently Seen…

Some random things I have seen over the past few days…

1) Recently seen at a magazine shop a block from our house…the Spanish magazine “CELULITIS” (no translation necessary there) with the subheading: “Guide to Your Body.” Imagine reading that on the metro!

2) Recently seen on the patio of my school… the South African dance troupe “i- THEMBA” composed of black, white and Indian performers from South Africa. I saw the performance twice today… once with the elementary school and one with the students in grades 7 to 12. The joy of the little ones was absolutely contagious as they clapped and danced along with the performers. Federico Fellini said, “Put yourself into life and never lose your openness, your childish enthusiasm throughout the journey that is life, and things will come your way.”

3) Recently seen on the bottom of my shoe… dog shit. Welcome to Europe. (See blog entry on street cleaning…. this is a VERY important public service).

4) Recently seen in our little home cinema (okay… that’s one of our computers resting on a folding chair in our bedroom):

a) The final season of “Angel”. I had an Angel-kind of a summer and, at long last, we got to watch the final episode as Angel, Spike, Gunn and Illyria hacked their way into the long dark night of all the evil that still existed in their world. We were not entirely satisfied with the ending… but the idea that the apocalypse is happening right now, all the time, and that people don’t even notice what is happening is pretty fascinating.

b) “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”. Episode 6 tonight. Shame on you if you are not watching this brilliant show! I am positively bewitched by Brad Whitford, Amanda Peet, Sarah Paulsen and (weird but true) Matthew Perry. (Really… I am a little bit in love with each of them. DP doesn’t mind). The writing is so smart and so SO funny. For me, the show is about we could/should be as people… as citizens of a developed nation and of the world. It’s about who we could be if we chose differently.

c) “Grey’s Anatomy”. We finished season 1 last night. McDreamy’s wife has just returned and there is going to be drama! Fortunately, we have season 2 on DVD.

d) Other shows on our list of great television to watch… and probably become horribly addicted to: “Lost” (which DP and my mom both love) and the new drama “Heroes”. The final season of “Alias” will be released on November 21st and I can hardly wait to see how Sydney saves the (very last) day and whether Michael Vaughn will rise from the dead.

I’ll keep you posted.
